Tips for cutting down calories when drinking hard liquor:

Order Your Drink “On the Rocks”

— Order your drink over ice. Drinks served on the rocks are intended for nursing, consumed in small sips. Not only will nursing your drink cut down on you overall alcohol consumption, it will also help avoid the dreaded morning after hangover.

Order Your Liquor “Straight Up”

— Go “Neat:” Nothing ruins low calorie alcoholic drinks like sugary mixers, such as fruit juices, soda, or energy drinks, which can double, even triple the calories in alcoholic drinks. Instead, order your liquor “neat,” or strait up.

Mix Your Liquor with Water or Seltzer

— If shooting hard liquor is too unpleasant for you, consider diluting the drink with water, or mixing it with seltzer.

— An additional bonus to mixing hard liquor with water or seltzer is the extra hydration it offers to your body. It’s commonly known that alcohol consumption dehydrates you. Mixing your drink with water or seltzer (and even better, drinking a glass of water or seltzer in between drinks) will dilute the negative effects alcohol has on your body.

Flavor Liquor with Low Calorie Mixers

— If low calorie alcoholic drinks seem too bland or too difficult to stomach, add a dash of flavor with your liquor, consider mixing your drink with flavored seltzer, or a splash of lemon or lime juice.
